It just takes a beat

volume up!

(I added that 'follow me' thingy in my margin..feel like being a peTal pusher?)

To quote this week's sunday scribblings...
"I don't like myself. I'm CRAZY ABOUT MYSELF!" -- Mae West
This week: bragging. What's awesome about you? You can pick one awesome thing, or list as many as you can. Don't be shy!

I'm weirdly proud to report that I actually share the same birthday as Mae West, yet, enviously, I don't share her confidence!
Here's another example of that vampy confidence- "When I'm good, I'm very good. But when I'm bad I'm better." WHO WAS THIS FEISTY,SEXY, DIAMOND LIL??? I just love Her attitude! Did u ever notice that when people drip with this kind of confidence and sex appeal, You just automatically find them impressive and sexy?! It has been proven over and over again that Attitude is everything! I've always loved this saying about attitudes.(hope u will read it)
No matter how many times I re-read that, I still have a difficult time changing mine. I SO want to be the type who can easily brag about my "awesome" qualities, my compliments, my prideful attributes.
Instead,I have a tendency to turn things 360 degrees when attention thrown my way becomes too ... attentive! When anyone starts to throw flattery and compliments and praise my way OR they want to give me the opportunity to talk about something exciting going on in my life... In NO time.. I've changed the subject and turned things around so they are venting, talking, boasting about themselves! I often wonder Why I do this?
Don't get me wrong.. INSIDE.. I really want to share my proud, 'awesome' characteristics, etc.... but, Unlike the flamboyant Miss West, I just keep turning things around.

Inadvertently, 'Kind of did it again here, didn't I?

Yes, you did, and you have lots to brag about! You're talented, fun, and thoughtful, just for starters. When you got it, flaunt it, they say, and honey, you got it!

Too often the negative words like bragging, arrogance, are used. In reality these are just expressions of self-confidence.

It's strange how flattery can embarrass people. I think it is this which decides the braggers from the kidders.

as stan said above, self-confidence is absolutely essential in life. It is a manifestation of a health psyche. Unsubstantiated boasting, and being proud of who you are -- two very different things.

Confidence with humility = a winning way... ;)

I love that saying - I'm going to print it out and pass it around the family. I fully agree with what Rob said above, he put it in a nutshell - the problem is putting it into action!

lucy, love the charles swindoll quote,, and i have to admit he is spot on...

i think that some of the insecurity,, at least in my case has come with age,, i used to be full of attitude,, and now i find myself quite lacking... not sure why that is,, but i cannot help but feel the two are directly related......

My mother had a saying 'People take you at your own valuation'. Mae West wasn't even pretty and she was no actress, but 'her own valuation' was all she needed.(Like Madonna.)

Miss Petal, red wrists for you!! You have not told them how funny, witty, goofy, smart, fun, friendly, kind, thoughtful, generous, loving, talented, maternal and incredible you are, to name a few!!!! But thankfully you put that marvelous quote up, so it makes up for it!! Talk about avoidance!! Did I tell you you're special, lovable, creative..... I could go on!!!

Love you
Sherrie

Hehe you did manage to turn it around again! But great post though, that saying about attitude really is true :)

Nothing wrong with a little humility. I think it's an excellent quality.

I felt like I was reading about myself! I do the same thing.

A very well-written post!

You're right - confidence is attractive in other people but at the same time it's not exactly appealing when other people brag. I think it's great that they're confident but I don't need to hear about it neither. lol

By the way, even though I was having a good hair day, I'm not a Leo ;)

amazing and sad that the pure pride we have as children changes into the way we have of turning things around 360 - this really resonated with me --- and i know from the many lumps and bumps and scrapes of life that love can be so strongly cemented that it becomes the most unbreakable thing one can ever have, and that is priceless!!! --- we are truly blessed to have that, aren't we???
