Out of this world

Sunday Scribblings prompt is SPACE. I cannot seem to wrap my mind around OUTER space. Instead I can't stop thinking of being OUT OF space. I may be cheating a little, Hopefully the scribblings girls won't kick me off their blog.
After 24 years in my home. Every Nook, Every Cranny, Every Closet, cabinet and storage bin Is Outer Out of SPace! The things a family can accumulate! We don't have storage in an attic ( The attic is now bedrooms) We don't have storage in the basement (The basement is my eldest sons apartment) so the biggest storage area is our garage. We have a FOUR car garage, Yet, We cannot put ONE car in there. Wall to Wall MESS! Each spring my husband sets out to cleaning this Messy garage and TRYING to organize it. He starts by trying to empty everything onto the driveway. Every year, cars driving down our street stop, thinking we're having a garage sale! Sometimes they offer money anyway, for the bicycles, mower and other gadgets that are out there. ( we have had our share of garage sales too, they don't make a dent on the state of the garage). Our neighbors laugh and joke about 'How often we clean out the garage but never seem to get anywhere!' (It's a great opportunity to socialize with our nice neighbors)
One time a show on lifetime was having a contest. The messiest garage contest! The winner would get a crew to come on over and CLEAN OUT THEIR garage AND Put up storage shelves and cabinets! I entered, praying I would win, so I could surprise my husband. I had to write a letter and show a few pictures of the disastrous state of our garage. Unfortunately, We didn't win.( I think because it was too big of a challenge even for an expert) So, The garage is still a jungle of clutter. BUT- Spring is here again, Maybe this year once we get it in order, it will stay that way? I doubt it. It has just become the dumping ground for things we can't use right now, but god forbid we throw them out! It is seldom that I go near this deep space, but When I do peer into this abyss of gym equipment, tools, ladders, OLD wood, old paint, baby furniture, bikes, snow blowers that need repair, tons of holiday decorations, bins and bins of god knows what anymore, things waiting to someday be sold, old furniture waiting to someday be stripped and refinished, An Old treadmill that may only need a slight repair, various sporting gear from the various years of the different interests of our kids. I think it would be easier to go the dynamite route than even make at Attempt at order ever again. Getting back to the proper topic.. There probably are alien visitations, but if they opt on hiding in my garage, We don't have to worry about them abducting US. They're now engulfed by the ever-expanding, Out of this world hodgepodge of Lulus catastrophic garage. There only hope for escape? The cosmos colliding, or waiting till next spring.

Lucy,
Mom-O-mon-O-man...if that isn't a slice of the typical American pie i don't know what is.
Americans will ultimately bury themselves in pile of useless junk and then the aliens (legal aliens) will move in.
;)

I love your take on the prompt! And I can tell you that you're not alone in the garage department. Okay... maybe ours isn't THAT bad. Well, actually, it's pretty bad, too!

i learned very early in life,, that stuff is just stuff.. i do stock up on things like dog food and toilet paper,, but hang on to useless stuff... not too much...
but then again i have probably literally moved at least 25 times in the last 25 years,,, more than that i am sure... so saving stuff has really never been an option.....

Are you sure you're not describing my house and garage?

The prompts take us where they will. I enjoyed this.

Just to bring your post back to the subject, think of all the stuff you don't need as 'alien'. Then you can easily get rid :-)

Laughing - out of space is the mantra of many. Too bad you didn't win the makeover - keep trying! I don't enter, so you stand a better chance. LOL

Oh can I empathize. We've only been in our place about 12 years, but it's a city apartment with very limited storage and we are OUT of space. Of course we wouldn't be out of space if we could just get rid of all the baby equipment, baby clothes, toddler clothes (both boy and girl), toddler toys, kids' books... Until we finally make up our mind whether we're going to try for a third child or not we're completely paralyzed - and in the meantime the kids keep needing new bigger clothes and accummulating even more stuff! Aaahhh!

Lucy, how do I feed your dog Molly? I had a bone but I couldn't give it to her and then she started barking at me. lol it was fun.

I guess if you didn't win the contest, your garage wasn't the messiest they found. So there is hope for you. Good luck!

You can make any prompt into something domestic. Perhaps if you install some huge racks.

Just a by-product of a very full life! I love what you said about the aliens, I used to tell my son that the boogeyman would take one look in his closet or under his bed and run screaming and crying out of the house! Happytiler told me to read this post, after we happened to catch a peak at the packed junk/storage area of a very large garden and home shop today, and thought it reminded us of our closets and garages.

That is a so familiar post! I am moving house. And we have stayed in the present house for 14 years. So we have accumulated lots of stuff. My situation is so bad that I don't know what to take and what to leave!

debris of our making
