3 Word Wednesday

As soon as I read the 3 words for 3 word wednesday, My mind went back to the first time I went to Radio City Music Hall.
I was about 12 years old. My step-fathers three single sisters took my sister and I on a day trip to Manhattan. It's funny, but that was my first trip to Manhattan, even though we only lived 40 minutes away. I instantly LoVED it. I remember going to the wax museum of horrors. I remember being terrified! There were re-enactments of Frankenstein and dracula killing their victims. The reproduction that stood out to me and really scared me the most was the boston strangler. Then it was off to Radio City Music Hall. Today there are many events and concerts held at this beautiful venue. It is most famous for being home to the 'Christmas Spectacular show' each year.Back in the early 30's when it opened until 1979, It was also a movie Theater. So in 1972, Before the famous, amazing Rockettes came out to perform, They first presented a movie. We saw-Butterflies are free. I remember it starred Goldie Hawn and a male actor portrayed a Blind character, but that is all I recall. I wasn't that interested in the film, I was too busy being mesmerized by the Theater itself. After the movie, When the Rockettes danced across the stage, I was speechless, spellbound and goosebumped. I know this was the exact moment my love for the theater and dance began. I was inspired to take dance classes afterwards and though circumstances in my young life didn't allow me to continue my pursuit, It has been one of my deepest desires and fantasies for.. forever.

I can't believe you only lived 40 minutes from Manhattan and..

Was a beautiful memory. I don't remember the movie at all when my father took us to Rockefeller Center

Edward Albee was the boy--he died last year. Believe he was a caretaker for his father Eddie Albee who almost out lived him--can't believe the absurd things I remember

I grew up an hour from NY and never went inside Radio City Music Hall. Walked past it a few times. Saw a few shows elsewhere.

Nice vignette from your youth.

I never lived in NY, I lived in CA back then and I'm 46. That's what made it freaky to be in NY at the same time yet living across the country. XXOO

Marvellous memoir. I had similar experiences. In London there was Madame Tussaud's waxworks, which included a Chamber of Horrors. Loved it.
And my interest in rock was really heightened when, at about 10, my mother took me to a Beatles concert.

The guy who played the blind guy in Butterflies are Free was Eddie Albert. He was best known for being the son of, Eddie Albert, the guy from Greenacres. He died a couple of years ago. Goldie Hawn was too skinny to be sexy but she was cute. I have never seen the Rockettes, but when I get to the City I would much rather go to a Yankee game.

I just noticed that Pia had told you the blind guy in Butterflies are Free was the son of the writer, Edward Albee. That is highly unlikely, since Edward Albee was gayer than Jack McFarland. Probably a common mistake since the names are similar. This news would have been very disturbing for Albee's life long gay life-partner. But they could have gone on Oprah.
