sunday scribblings prompts us to ask- Do I have to?
Do I have to wish your wishes on my birthday cake?
Do I have to pray each day that you stay okay?
Do I have to encourage, nurture and guide?
Do I have to hope for your happiness in every way?
Do I have to hold you always close to my heart?
Do I have to cajole you to smile when you're feeling blue?
Do I have to savor your inner desires & inner self?
Do I have to dream to escape worrying about you?
Do I have to ache when you're feeling saddness or pain?
Do I have to forgive if you've moved me to seethe?
Do I have to love you as I do- with all of my heart?
Yes I have to my 3 sons, alike needing to breathe.

I especially like that original "Do I have to wish your wishes on my birthday cake?" This is an interesting response to the prompt and brings up a universal question - and your answer to it. It is sweet.
I liked this. Only a mother can express it so beautifully.
Liberate yourself
Oh Lucy, I love this! As a mom too, I live this! "Do I have to dream to escape worrying about you?" - that IS the only escape! =)
I am not a mother but I can see what drives you to write this! Lovely :)
A truly lovely piece. Written with such feeling.
I have been called a mother before but I think it was in a different context. Nomatter how old they get you never stop worrying and aching.

How lovely! And, yes, it does seem we have no choice about some things!!
gorgeous post, lucy --- you are such a mother!!! - my mother-in-law loved her kids in this whole hearted way and they thrived on her love - your boys are ever so fortunate to have such a mommy!!!
You spoke from your heart! Nicely expressed! Well done!
Excellently said. I feel the same about my seven!
