Lucky Lucy

About a month ago Mr. Petals was thinking about purchasing tickets to see 'menopause the musical' We've heard from many clients and also his parents about How hysterically funny this show is.
Considering it was at a playhouse on long island, not in an ornate, grand Manhattan theater, I thought the ticket price seemed too steep. I was also concerned because we have Many affairs coming up which means gifts to give and clothes to buy.
So, I put the old kabash on his good idea! ( NO! I don't wear the pants in this house, but I am the voice of reason and he is reasonable enough(and smart enough) to know when to agree!) I then saw in my newspaper, there was a contest to win tickets to see the show. So, even though it was a long shot, I figured I'd go online and fill out the form and .. well, WHo knows! I remember so clearly saying to him.. Hey! I know! I will win them for us!! (he of course, just rolled his big hazel eyes) Well... WE WON!! ( I know!! I still can't believe it either!! My blog friend Jen used to call me Lucky lucy.. I thought it was cute but now know she was also right!) Amazing! I got the email the other day.. Two tickets to see Menopause the musical!! I almost fell off my computer chair! I am so excited. AND More so, than if I had purchased them! Am I alone on this or am I correct in assuming that most women are never as ecstatic as they are if there is a bargain or deal as part of the bargain or deal?

Perfect example...getting a great sale! Like receiving the 30% off coupon in the mail from your favorite store, instead of their usual 15% off coupon. (Boy do these stores KNOW how to get me to visit them!) Or like today, quickly observing the cashiers mistake in charging me twice for my 3 pack of cantaloupes at Costco. (great catch Lucy!) Or like Yesterday, my husband bought some clothes which included purchasing identical pants in 2 different colors . The sign said they were on sale. Yet, The 50% off, sale price applied to one pair but not the other in a different color? They were on the same rack under the same sign. I not only caught this unusual error on my receipt, but calmly, clearly and OH SO nicely insisted that an adjustment must be made. (voice of reason again? or was it the menopausal intense "don't F*&*ing mess with me" sign on my forehead?) i guess both..... They really ARE the same damn pants! Today I teased Mr. Petals that I am saving him a fortune by being such a sharp, savvy and don't forget Lucky woman! He reminded me of my biggest savvy deal of all time... This Free Mac computer that I am using to tell you about loving a great deal!
Tell me about some of your amazing bargains and wins!

Did u Ever?

Did u ever notice how absurd some of the text messages we send & receive are? We have really become a world that reads each others minds! Yesterday without putting much thought into it, I sent my middle son a message that was simply this..
I hve chickn what up ? xox
the translation of that? I made your favorite! chicken for dinner! Are you eating home? or do u have other plans? I love you so much! After I sent it, I realized I should have been a bit clearer.. "I have chicken" made me laugh out loud! What made me realize that we have become mind readers was when I received this reply from him.. Thx Mama I ate @ wrk. stopn at Oscars to chill for a bit.
He totally got my rushed message!

No matter how rushed I am, I always have to end each message with ALL three hugs/kisses symbols! Just like HAVING to say 'be careful driving' each time I say goodbye to my kids, the XOX has become a superstitious habit for me knowing I am truly conveying my love to them. As if, even in my haste if I should write only X O , they will assume I love their brothers more? Anyway.. back to the subject of absurd texting. Today despite my crazy busy work day, I wanted to let my husband know I was thinking of him AND that I did get a chance to have an unexpected lunch break! This message was sent to his cell...
hi honey lunch! jst thinkng o U xox
I never heard back from him which isn't weird because he doesn't like typing and if he is real busy at work, he can't make a call. When he came home i told him I sent him a message and when he looked he had never received it! Just then my youngest son walked by and said "Mom.. Why did u send me that note that you were thinking of me when you were eating lunch? I was right in the other room when u were eating!" Gee, I don't even know HoW i sent it to the wrong name?! Which made me start wondering.. Have any of my abbreviated crazy messages been sent out to baffled friends and family members in my address book? Or worse? a doctor? The pharmacist? The butcher? "i have chicken" How confused would HE be? (Come to think of it, he does look at me like I am a bit loopy)
(I really should stop denying that I could use reading glasses to see those tiny letters on this small phone.) In the meantime.... u txt weird 2? Hpe u lve commt

soul mates

The sunday scribblings prompt is soul mates..
This is a poem I wrote a few years ago that I thought was fitting to re-post
for this prompt.

We declared I do I do I do
We promised 'I'll always love you'
young pillow talk idealistic dreaming
romance rapture euphoric gaze gleaming
guarded inner identities comfortably revealed
vows before friends and god properly sealed
heart and soul-mates, our spirits happily unite
then life's bumpy road inflicts a challenging plight

like a random coin flip chance had tossed
woes force some to abandon vows seek divorce
still others sustain, dance the to and fro
give and take hold on tight don't let go
ups downs sickness frustration
sadness stress financial devastation
raising kids extremely crazy
work ceaseless, love-life lazy

perseverance through thick and thin
Love comes Full circle, rapture again
faith devotion patience strength-galore
love and passion grows all the more
ripening promises made years before
Sharing life as lovers and best friends
Empowered commitment brings amends
'Till death do we part' our traditional adage
believe treasure promise enduring marriage
Each bearing witness to each others significant life
Divine the intimacy of soul mates husband and wife

One Warm White Woman

My book club chose the book '1000 white women' **by Jim Fergus as this months selection.
It is so true that you can't judge a book by it's cover, because when I scanned this one, I thought.. oh pooey I don't want to read some book about indians in the 1800's. THEN i read the prologue and was Hooked immediately. This brilliant author wrote a fascinating story of fiction based on One TRUE fact in our countries history. That fact (which I had never heard before) is that a Cheyenne Indian Chief proposed to our president Ulysses S. Grant, a way to make lasting peace. The Chief proposed that If the government was to give the Cheyennes 1000 white women in exchange for 1000 horses, The Cheyennes could plant their 'seeds' and the next generation would be born with the white mans privileges and joined bloodlines. In reality the Chief was denied but in Mr. Fergus' clever book, he spins the entire concept into an interesting tale by questioning... what if the answer was YES?

While reading this book something strange dawned on me and I made an alarming personal discovery. (hope u are listening to primitive on my playlist)
I am extremely 'fired up' by primitive love! ( I was going to write Savage S** but Knew the hits on my site meter would be frighteningly over the top if I used the "S' word!)
My husband reminded me that I shouldn't be so shocked because this discovery is certainly not news to him... ( This statement after I told him I was buying HIM a loin cloth and full indian head dress for MY birthday) He reminded me That years ago the Tarzan greystoke movie very much eh hemm... 'affected ' me. As of course did Hottie HuGH Jackman the moment his claws appeared in the first Xmen movie! ( i remember clearly removing my sweater and asking my husband... Did it suddenly get hot in this theater??) Then of course there is BILL the savage vampire in HBO's Exciting series -true blood. (even if you don't have time to read this old post.. please DO read the 4 funny comments it got!)

So anyway... I started questioning what this all means about me? I mean.. I really am a mild mannered, peaceful, REsPECTABLE LADY!! I started questioning WHEN this obsession with 'the untamed??" began. How far back has savage S** been making me eh hmm 'feel all aglow'. Then it came to me... I distinctly remember being on a date with my husband, I looked at him while he was animatedly telling a funny story.... And was FONDLY reminded of a 'favorite' childhood character!! THE UNGA BUNGA MAN FROM MY BELOVED BUGS BUNNY CARTOONS!! HE was my first heart throb as a young girl! ( boy I should be lying on a couch somewhere!)

** excerpt from 1000 white women...
'it must have been a dream, for my husband was now in the tent with me, he was still dancing softly, noiselessly, his moccasined feet rising and falling gracefully, soundlessly, he spun softly around the fire, shaking his gourd rattle, which made no sound, danced like a spirit being around me where I lay sleeping. I began to become aroused felt a tingling in my stomach, an erotic tickle between".... Sorry....'cause...

Gee it's been a long time...

I feel like I haven't blogged in ages! Sometimes when i am feeling blue which happens from time to time, I seem to close all doors of communication. Sounds familiar doesn't it? My last post wasn't about me but I guess it could have been. Sometimes feelings of being overwhelmed can make us distance ourselves but sometimes feelings of sadness can do it too.
I usually try to make my posts light and humorous. After all, who wants to hear about my bad week! Well you are hearing it! It's just been an extremely trying, mentally exhausting, sad week.

There! I shared it! (sans the details) This morning when I tried to greet my first client with a happy smile, I instead burst into tears and into her arms where for the first time in the 12 years that she has been coming to me with gray roots and frayed troubles... SHE comforted ME. Shortly after I began wrapping her perm, my joints started aching, my head throbbing and I began to shiver and raised the thermostat to 80 degrees. My son stayed home from school due to a fever and cough and I had guessed that I must have caught it. After a short work day, still feeling a light head and a tightness in my chest, I drove my poor youngest son to the pediatrician.

You can imagine my shock when Dr. P. told me that he was sure my son had the flu and since the flu is rare in June, YES he assumed he had the dreaded swine flu.( cue the DA DA DA DA alarming organ music here or turn up and listen to my playlist pick for this post! )
Dr. P. did a swabbing of his nasal mucous and 10 minutes later confirmed that my son did indeed have the flu. ( Dr.'s are now being instructed NOT to send the swab out for further testing to pin point the specific strain) He also said that most likely I had a milder case and suggested I see my doctor too. (which I did) He then said 'The good news' for us is that he is expecting a horrific number of swine flu cases this coming winter and since My son and I now have the antibodies, we most likely, will be spared. (Gee that sounds like awful news really, doesn't it? I hope he is wrong in that scary assumption. ) So my son and I were put on Tami-flu which is an anti-viral medication. If you begin this medicine within 48 hours of feeling ill, it can help you start feeling well much sooner. This brilliant pediatrician also put our minds at ease explaining that only 5 people died of the swine flu as oppose to the 30,000 that die yearly from the usual type of flu's. The media being responsible for blowing it out of proportion and making us all so fearful.

I always try to put things into perspective and so I realize that this isn't SO terrible compared to so many troubles in people's lives. But my heart breaks for my son, who is a junior in high school and is missing much year end reviewing and two Very important tests. A chemistry test today AND he was scheduled to take the SAT's tomorrow morning. He wanted to go take the sat's despite the 103 temperature that he has! I, of course, Would NEVER let him do that. According to his chemistry teacher who I emailed with today, MoST of my son's high school seems to be out sick, which makes me think this swine thing is much more wide spread than we are being told....
So there you have it... My reason for not blogging too much and the reason I now look and feel like this..

covert dissolution

like a ghost you slip by- fly out rush rush
your thoughts covert- your feelings hush hush
never exposing what's locked in your guarded heart
incommunicative habit - I fear we're drifting apart

habitual apathy grows in place of mush-mush
As Frustrations you experience wane and crush crush
Be confident that it's secure to always trust me-Please stay smart
acknowledging my heartfelt concern?- such a courageous start!

sorrowful evening

Dreary
Embrace
Timid

a dark and dreary rainy night
slick roads and insufficient light
a tenderfoot inattentively looks for a smoke
a thunderous embrace with a giant oak
a solemn officer passes the front porch swing
a lump in his throat over tragic news he must bring
an unsuspecting mother timidly answers her door
incomprehensible heartache drapes her forever more

No matter what the three word wed. words would have been, I think
my mind would have gone here. This week, a dear friend of my
dear friend, received Just this kind of devastating news.
As a mother my heart is just breaking for this poor
Mom and her family. Losing a child is truly a parents
absolute worst nightmare. I just can't stop thinking of this
tragedy and the poor young life lost.

Miss Lucy in the kitchen

The prompt this week for Carry on Tuesday is the opening of a poem by Siegfried Sassoon entitled Everyone Sang-
"Everyone suddenly burst out singing;
And I was filled with such delight"

The heads or Tails prompt is anything that begins with the letter 'A'.

combined... these two prompts help me give you a synopsis of a happy little part of my week.... Applesauce
As I was baking pork chops for dinner one night
I realized I had run out of Applesauce
I was so bothered by this because like
Peter Brady I LOVE Pork chops AND Applesauce
I usually buy the sweetened type by Motts
Well, discovering I had run out made me crave it worse!
I spied a bowl full of Apples on my counter and thought...
hmmm, how difficult and time consuming would this be??
I turned to my trusty google search for an easy recipe
30 minutes later... I had THE yummiest Applesauce I had ever tasted!
I presented it proudly to my family and declared... I Can't believe that
I've been a Mom for 25 years and have NEVER made Applesauce!!
My family tasted it and agreed it was mmm mmmm good! I imagined that....
Everyone suddenly burst out singing; mmm mmm good
mmm mmm good that's what moms Applesauce is mmm mmm good!
And I was filled with such delight" Truly, like a scene you may have seen from
the good old brady kids! Ah, but in reality, my family just continued eating
a bit more resemblance to cattle than Greg, peter and bobby.
here is that easy recipe....

8 med. apples
1/4 c. sugar
1-2 shakes cinnamon
1 1/4 c. water
Peel and core apples, cut into quarters. Place all ingredients in large saucepan.(applesauce pan!) Cover and cook over medium heat, simmering, until done, about 30 minutes. Mash any remaining lumps with a fork for uniform texture. Makes about 1 quart.
( i used a potato smasher!)

I may be small.....

efficient
treacherous
optimize

^These are the 3 word wednesday words. I have optimized my limited computer/free time by combining them with
The heads or tails prompt! This week the HoT prompt is Brave... Our friend Skittles requests that it must be a true story..
Well, it's funny because I was JUST telling this true story to a few friends JUST last week!
I remember SO distinctly, the day I discovered my bravery . It was so efficient of my fellow 8 year old friend Linda to quickly point it out to me. You see, I was just being me. Being raised as a 'free range' child, I was Accustomed to Optimizing each situation I was in. Linda and I were in our local pizza parlor looking forward to a nice slice and a sweet coke. Before we knew what was happening, One adult after another came up to the counter and they began pushing ahead and placing their orders. Everyone seemed to ignore the two little girls who had gotten to that counter first. Thinking back now, it must have been quite a treacherous lunch crowd to be so rude and self-absorbed! But their wicked behavior didn't deter me! I bravely pushed ahead and loudly spoke up to the counter clerk... HEY MISTA!! WE WERE HERE FIRST!! ( 'excuse me' would have been more polite..but HEY i was only 8!)
Well again... I didn't realize it 'till later when Linda brought my unusual conduct to my attention, which then made me think back and I did remember that the crowd had gotten quiet and BACKED away! We got our pizza lickety- split and I even received a big smile from the disheveled, sweaty pizza cook over by those Large ovens!

When we got to our table, I folded my slice in half and began enjoying that delicious saucy, cheesy taste that is still one of my favorite foods! Linda, on the other hand, just stared at me until I said "whah a mattuh" ( my mouth was full, again at 8 my manners were shaky) Linda's eyes were wide with astonishment... 'I Can't believe you did that Lulu!' I replied.. 'did what?? '
She then went on to tell me how she could NEVER have spoken up and pushed ahead of those adults like that! She looked at me like I was the first kid to land on the moon! I can so vividly remember my initial feeling... It was embarrassment... I thought, maybe their is something wrong with me, if she can't be like this.. But then i remember CLearly thinking... BRAVERY! ThAT is what i showed in Tony's pizza parlor! Recognizing it felt so fulfilling and filled me with pride! To this day I have NEVER allowed someone to unfairly cut in line in front of me! I will be the first one to ask someone to go ahead of me, if they have less items in the grocery store... but DON'T you dare just Do it! (especially when I'm hungry!!)
I may be small... but WATCH OUT!

Carry On Tuesday!

I am so happy to participate in the first week Of Carry on tuesday! My sweet, dear friend Keith from Keiths ramblings created this brilliant prompt site for us Bloggers, and I am so Happy he did!
Hope u will pop in and visit, or better yet... join in!
Todays prompt is the opening line of 'A Walk After Dark' by W. H. Auden
Sorry Keith.. this is all I could come up with, but I just HAD to contribute on your first week!!

A cloudless night like this

can set the spirit soaring

Inspiring a sleepy, mischievous wife

To rid herself of her husbands snoring

She tiptoes towards his favorite chair

where he is.. snorting? whistling? blowing a horN?!

She stealthily rolls him to their outside deck

And leaves him out there till the early morn!

home sweet home

We know that April Showers bring May flowers... but do u know what May showers bring? (look at the photo closely to find the answer)

give up? here's the closeup...

FUNGI!!!

My yard became loaded with mushrooms this month! At first we thought they were so cool! They actually looked like lawn ornaments, so we left them alone. Now they've started loooking like Rotten mushrooms so my husband is yanking them out! (No wonder the bunnies love my yard!)

Jeepers Creepers

jeepers creepers
I am haunted by your peepers
left inside your decapitated head
discarded like trash in a sparse flower bed
Little baby bunny your young life sure ended crummy
you went from One day..hippety hoppin' through the 'hood
to the next day... Cosmo thinking...'mmm finger lickin good.'
I apologize for the actions of my beastly schnoodle
although it must have been a cat that took your kaboodle
Gruesome nightly nightmares of you have me excessively affected
When I close my tired eyes I see your brown eyes in a head...
disconnected

Not sure if this poem tells the story clearly.
but one day.. I saw my dog Cosmo so distracted by something in our yard
he wouldn't come to me but kept trying to lick or eat something..
I know! It is so disturbing..
I was shocked and quite horrified to discover a tiny baby bunny head.
Since there wasn't any blood on cosmo or Anywhere.. I had to assume
he was not the murderer. I had an unusually difficult time with this entire
episode.
Sorry to pass this haunting image on to you but I am hoping that 'letting it go'
by writing about it, may finally help me let these nightmares disappear.

'P' soup

How many words starting with 'P' can you squeeze into a paragraph...or two.

Picky Penelope Potter preferred to Picnic in the particularly parched but pleasant perimeter of the park.
She packed her perfectly prim and proper pannier with her personal pet provision picks.
Pumpkin Pie, Pistachio pudding, Pickled Pizza, Plum Pancakes, Pineapple potatoes and the Popular Pork popsicles! Just as Penelope previously predicted, her platonic pal Peter the play-write phoned and planned on popping by. Penelope was so pleased that she also packed a pleasant piece of praline prune pecan pie... Peter's personal passion! A Precocious passerby named paul pretended not to Peek or prick his ears up but he privately Perked up when he peered at the picnic prizes penelope had un-Packed.
He proceeded with a profound plan to pilfer the picnic pannier! Pretending to be the parks patrolman, He performed a brilliant phony prank persuading Penelope to flee due to the pestilent pernicious Penguins that were proceeding down Pennsylvania place Piloting towards the Park!! In a Panic, Penelope only picked up her pretty Pink pumps and purple purse and paced purposefully away .. Like a perfectly pure pilgrim she proceeded to PLead with people picnicking to PLEASE precede before Pernicious Penguins pillage the park!!! People perceived her as pretty peculiar!
Paul pilfered, pigged out, then promptly projectile puked! Perfect punishment!

HEAL!

First I want to wish every Mom a very special Mothers Day! Hope it's a day where you finally put your feet up and take a break from doing... EVERYTHING!!! I think NO ONE but a Mom really knows about what we manage to perform every single day, every single year... The energizer bunny has NoTHInG on us Moms! I will accept this special day and readily take any of the special stuff my family wants to bestow on me! I KnOW I deserve at least ONE freaking day a year to be WOrsHiped! Lay it on me babies!

As for the Sunday Scribblings prompt... a different kind of Healing came to mind... and being it's Mothers Day EVE and I am already in my 'treat me like a F**#ing goddess ' mode.. I will boldly go with it.. HEEling my crazy Pets!
I don't know when it happened but my dogs have gone bonkers. The incessant barking is driving me absolutely CRAZY! (Would like to have thrown another explicative in front of crazy, but I am already showing way too much of my current grumpy mood.) According to my favorite little adorable TV dog trainer.. Caesar Milan,The way to correct the barking is to first give these crazy dogs a job. They NEED to be walked every day. I feel awful to admit that I am such a lazy dog owner. Instead of walking them, I open the back-door for them! My dogs run around a lot in our fenced in back yard. (My youngest son is on doody duty.) BEING an ever so busy working Mom... this has been an easy solution in making us all happy. (well, maybe not 'doody' boy)

So, it is time to take on YET another task to perform. Walking these two Nuts. As soon as we take the leashes out, Cosmo just starts yapping. I make him sit and stay and won't walk him till he quiets down. Molly Just pulls us with all the strength from her incredibly strong Fat Ass.
She also has been known to poop while she is walking without missing a step... just poops along in the street as we go! (totally cracks us up!)
miss molly

"HEEL!" "SIT!" "QUIET! " (My neighbors are just loving us) I am still not sure HOW or WHEN all this heeling will eventually sever their vocal cords (Caesar hasn't elaborated much about that) No sooner do we get back in the house and they hear ONE tiny sound outside... The chorus begins! Molly with her deep baritone Woofs and Cosmo with his High-pitched weeny soprano Yap Yap Yaps, they just go right through me!!

I think it is going to take a lot more heeling lessons before we see miraculous results. But like they say.. every cloud has it's silver lining. Besides how happy this must be making Molly and Cosmo feel, this has also been a great way to coax my youngest son to take walks with me around the neighborhood, allowing for some nice talks and as always, something to crack up over. (btw.. Street doody cleanup became ANOTHER MOM job, as Doody boy doesn't like to touch doody with a baggie and we can't bring his GIant pooper scooper along for the walk)
(There better be a lot of ass kissing tomorrow!)
*** mothers day update... My youngest son just had THE best idea... Multiple kids? Multiple Mothers days each year! I still have TWO more to celebrate!! :)

worlds are colliding

Do u remember the Seinfeld episode where George is VeRY upset that his fiance Susan is becoming part of his 'friends world'. He felt mixing Relationship George with friend George would be catastrophic! His Worlds Colliding! I think there was a lex luther reference there too? (bone.. help me out!!) Well... I reluctantly joined up for facebook. I don't know why, 'cause I kept resisting and insisting it was part of my kids worlds and i Just didn't belong there. I declined so many invitations to befriend my...friends. Well, there was one special friend I just couldn't say no to... so I am in this whole new world... let's call it 'Over There'. I began by only letting the blogging friends from 'over here' know about 'over there'. But, Like many new undertakings.. you get a little over zealous.. (speech bubble over my head here) 'Gee.. who else do I know that has facebook???' So I invite my cousin from "real life' to 'over there', and one of my husbands co-workers, Then... there was an old friend who I had declined a facebook invitation from several months back... so I invited her 'over there'. Then my childhood friend Linda who I've written several posts about..... (Still waiting to hear from her)..but I bet soon She will be 'over there' .... Then it dawns on me.... without even getting my kids worlds involved... My OWN worlds are colliding and I am already panicking over this most likely catastrophic collision!! I don't want many people in 'real life' world to find me 'over here'! Because, if they are 'over there', eventually I just know that will lead back to 'over here'. I've already felt like I've told way too many real lifers about 'over here' and it's been hindering me from writing ALL that is in my heart and on my mind...WHAT have I gotten myself into?? What did George Do? Do I need to fly backwards around the earth a few rotations like superman? Or just admit once again in the immortal words of Ralph Kramdon... I've got a BIG MOUTH!!

Grrrrr

I LOVE the show the biggest loser! I think that it is inspiring people all around the globe to get up and get healthy! I get so caught up in the personalities and feelings of the contestants. In case you don't watch it.. this season it was couples losing weight together. Fathers and sons, cousins, moms and daughters.. At one point each couple had to choose who would stay on the biggest loser ranch and continue their progress and Who would have to go home and try to make it on their own. Of course when it came to a parent choosing... it's a no brainer, right? WHO would choose to stay and get healthy taking advantage of the greatest opportunity of their lives over their child having that dream come true... I will tell u who... HELEN! Just saying her name makes smoke come out of my nostrils! A 48 year old mom who lost over 100 lbs and is now in the finale. She is Very proud of her accomplishments as she should be. I just can't believe she can go home and look her unhealthy, over weight daughter in the eyes. It was so obvious to me that poor Shannon didn't have the courage to speak up and put her own needs before her moms. She relented and chose to go home. When Helen went home a skinny, healthier her.. there was Shannon still obese and looking unhappy. Even at the last challenge, don't you think that it was unusual that Shannon wasn't there... routing for her Mom? It could be an indicator that she is harboring some serious, yet valid resentments. (Can u believe how upset a tv show has me?) I kept waiting for Helen to say something to Shannon! NO! It was ALL about HER and it totally sickens me! I can't wait to see the finale on tuesday night... Helen..You are already THE biggest loser in my book, so I pray Someone else wins the 1/4 mill!

"Stimulating" Summertime memory!

Over at Heads or Tails the theme is any past theme.. I chose to RE-share a summertime memory from last year. In case you missed it the first time! (also..I am not feeling well.. so this was much easier than straining my foggy stuffed up head!)

As my green thumbed husband drove to work each and every day
He lustily admired Pagodas in a nursery on the way

So at the start of our vacation as a gift of my love and affection
I bought him a Pagoda in celebration of his flower gardens erection

Choosing a favorite Pagoda amongst so many was Harder than we thought it would be
Until with a stroke of luck the nice owner named Dick, offered us a premature summer sale on three

My husband erected his pagoda ramrod straight between his flowers and the earth
Very Happy with it's details, height, beauty and girth

As we sat each day enjoying the gardens new view with great admiration
A shaft of sunlight illuminated my eyes to a new observation

I scratched at my cocked head with curiosity till my finger joint went numb
What does this pagoda remind me of? NO answers seemed to come

Deep in my brains bone and in my hearts center core
I swear I've seen this Pagodas shape somewhere before

It's driving me nuts, what it is, I can not think!
But I must end my poem for my Pen is out of ink

Fun for me!

I know many bloggers have a playlist on their blogs. I have mine through playlist.com..
I LOVE choosing fitting music for some posts & I'm frustrated when they Don't have a song I NEED for my blog. So I am wondering if maybe you know if there is a way to pull from our own I-tunes library and somehow Add our own tunes to the playlist. Any help would be welcomed! Thanks!
(enjoy a little moloko tune with me!)

Confessions of a dangerous mind

(or confessions of a shopaholic?)

The Sunday Scribblings prompt is confession while the
scribblers soup prompt asks us to Write a piece using only quotes from movie titles, book titles, song verses or titles.
I just had to try and combine the two! Warning.. It is Bananas! Nuts! (see if u remember where each of the quotes comes from!)

I made a midnight confession each night while you were sleeping
I would vigilantly be your watchman sending your winged angels and demons weeping

so turn your lights down low, as I say a little prayer for you
and think "oh my man I love him so, he'll never know"
(I am cuckoo)

I pledge NO touch of evil, eraserhead or night of the living dead
would dare disturbia the slumber song lulling your dreamy eyes and wispy head

Suddenly, Dreams from my father allow me to remember a thousand splendid suns I spent locked inside a temple of doom
Bad Memories waft me into a nightmare before Christmas past event and my Crazy mind swoons

I dreamed a dream where in a sea of love I was hopelessly devoted to you
but you cried One day more Of your shopping addiction and we are finally through

From Dusk till dawn I flail violently at my own demons,
but I can't get no... Sa Tis Fac Tion
I awake in a sea of blood and discover I've committed a sequential
fatal attraction

Sharing my shopping tip!

Forget the current swine flu scare... I am ALWAYs worried about germs! I am crazy about hand washing! I wash my hands so often, I am surprised they aren't raw. (but I am hand cream crazy too) That is why my action made NO sense last week while I was shopping in a produce store...After I tried over and over and over and I just couldn't open one of those hermetically sealed plastic produce bags... I actually... don't freak out now... I actually HAD to lick my finger tips! I was SO reluctant.. but I had so many items to buy and NO time to be F*&%ing around with plastic bags... It seriously Killed me! I was cringing! I couldn't stop thinking about it.. And sure enough.. 2 days later... I had a terrible sore throat and cold. I just KNOW it had to come from touching that shopping carts filthy, germy handle and then licking my finger tips! YuLK! So this week... I thought.. do I bring a wet sponge with me?? Do I care if I look like a nut?? And then the brilliant idea hit me! Use the produce! I looked around each aisle till I found the wettest looking green thing... It was Broccoli RAbe. ( which I LOVE but wasn't buying today).. So I ripped off a few very wet leafs and put them in my basket... Every time I needed to open a bag... I rubbed the leaves! ( I guess I looked like a nut even without a sponge) .. but it worked and I was able to open up at least 15 bags! I think rubbing those leaves may have been good luck too because I won $2.00 on a scratch off ticket! Who knew Broccoli could be so useful!
So...How worried are YOU about the swine flu and germs in general?

Sometimes while Working in a service profession
Opportunity for stressful resentment can arise
I know you should never quarrel with a paying client

Didn't fully follow the prompt.

The sunday scribblings prompt is follow... what do you follow who do you follow, your take on follow..
well if you would kindly follow me... I would just like to tell you how the word follow applied to my day TOdAY...

First at work I had a client telling me in great detail his derogatory opinion of President Obama and WHY he feels We are DOOMED by his administration. I love Obama and found it hard to believe what this man was telling me .. but then again I don't FOLLOW politics as closely as I know i should and to be quite honest.. Much of what I was told today.. I didn't Follow at all!
(it was however the quickest haircut I have ever given! Lately, when I am made to feel uncomfortable... I've been snipping at double time)

After work I decided to take advantage of yet another Gorgeous day and I headed back to the beach board walk for a peaceful brisk walk. At first I was deep in thought, but then I began to realize that EVentually, EVeryone seemed to be passing me... I was constantly the one FOLLOWinG ... Fat people, old people, moms and strollers. I know I have short frog legs... but I was going as fast as those legs could carry me... Yet it was inevitable.. I would hear steps of someone following me... in no time ... they were 1/4 mile ahead of me!! As I was heading east I saw a VerY old woman with one of those walkers with wheels going west... I thought... If this lady ends up passing me... I am in trouble! ( i also thought.. BOY do I give her kudos!)

I followed the beach up with a nice long talk outdoors with my eldest.. and again.. the word FOLLoW kept slipping into the conversation...He suggested I FOlloW his lead and start tucking in my shirts more often!! haha This made me smile.. since he never used to care about fashion. Recently he lost weight and is enjoying this new look (for him) of tucking with a belt! He apparently has all his friends following his trend and ditching their baggy sloppy look for my son's tucked in fever!
(he really had me laughing and of course proud as usual) I took his tuck-in challenge(dropping my pants right there in the back yard and tucking in my blouse) and now that I've lost 4 and 1/2 lbs. following weight watchers (had to get that in there!)... following his fashion suggestion.. looked surprisingly nice! He then told me " You just need to get a belt now Mom, I will pick u up one at the thrift store!" (he kills me, does he think I am belt-less?? I own at least 20, I even have a special belt HANGER in my closet.. I just don't like to wear belts!) but instead I smiled ear to ear as he followed me inside to help with dinner.

Following our delicious yet easy dinner, my husband and I plopped into the hot tub. While soaking together I asked Mr. Petals what his thoughts on the word 'follow' were?
He said... 'hmm, I don't know... I just know I would follow YOU anywhere.'
I can't tell you what followed that... but let's just say...If the days that follow today are half as sweet... It will be a beautiful weekend.

hey.. did u follow that whole long story?! Thank-you!

3 word wednesday

deceit
indulge
oath

I was only 8 years old When I had my first taste of liquor
A toothache had hit me hard, each minute the pain getting quicker
Mom foolishly gave me a shot glass of scotch to dab on my gums that were thumping
After deceitfully guzzling down several glasses, my little heart started pumping!
I stripped off all my clothes and started running wildly around each room
Mom had already left for work and wouldn't be returning too soon
My big sister realized I was drunk and frantically called our big brother
He caught me and tried to calm me and threatened to call our busy mother
I can't remember for how long I sickly hung over our putrid pink bathroom sink
All I know is I made an oath to my young self..Never AGAIN to indulge in drink!

Once upon a time

Once upon a time you walked through a grocery store... aisle by aisle...you would often see a young mother, Baby in her cart, talking with animated expressions, happy to be spending quality bonding time with her baby as she accomplished food shopping along with the gift of lovingly spending time with her child.
Once upon a time you walked through your neighborhood.... street by street... you would often see a young mom pushing her baby in his stroller, sometimes she would be singing a soft lullaby to lull her sweet child to sleep, other times... the animated expressions and songs of wheels on the bus and the itsy bitsy spider, teaching and loving and enjoying this precious moment.
That is, Once upon a time, before technology took over the brains and common sense of normal, intelligent people.

Now I find it distractingly disturbing to see children being ignored while parents are busy talking on their phones to... WHO?? really.. WHO is more important than the one who is with you in THIS moment? I've witnessed couples in restaurants, each busy texting someone else, Oblivious to the moment they're in. Today I saw a woman walking her dog while on the phone.
The dog was pulling and distracted and totally needed to be taught how to heel, but NO corrections could be made... she looked like she was oblivious to the fact that she even had a leash in her hand. I know I am getting older and to some i must sound like an out of touch old cranky biddy. But I really feel strongly about this and I think that everyone needs to step back and look at each moment in their lives and really see what is important. Trust me, Children grow up in a heartbeat. They really really need your special attention now. Life is so busy, Parents Need to work long hours, I certainly understand all that... but when your child, loved one or even your pet is there with you... Make them feel special. Give Them a special moment. Let them know THEY are worth your time, or you may find your self some day saying... Once upon a time I had a child, but they don't seem to have any time for me anymore.

Sort of a fish tale

What BEAUTIFUL weather we had on Saturday! Unfortunately I had to work through most of the day, but after dinner, The sun was still shining.. so, my son, Husband (aka mr. petals) and I rushed off to the board walk and we enjoyed a long walk, the gorgeous sunshine and fun talks, it felt great! We are training for a 5K walk we are participating in on Fathers day. (I'll tell u more about that another day) While walking and talking Mr. Petals shared an old story with our youngest son that he hadn't heard before. Even though I remember the story well, I not only enjoyed hearing it again... I decided to share it with all of you as my 3 year blogoversary gift!

Many years ago while walking the same board walk we ran into a long time client of my husbands and he introduced me to her... Her name was Bonnie. For many years, My husband used to cut Bonnie's hair and her son Jimmy's hair. In our business, you often watch people's children grow up each month, right before your eyes. Well, Jimmy, it seemed, was always getting into trouble. First he was kicked out of his high school, so Bonnie enrolled him into Private school. He was expelled from that school as well. Jimmy also could never hold down a job, he was drinking too much and he was always in some kind of trouble. Bonnie was at her wits end! One day she asked my husband for help. It seemed that Jimmy really really liked my husband and always opened up to him while getting his haircut, so she thought maybe, just maybe, my husband could try to talk some sense into this confused boy, who was going no where in life, and being he was so fond of Mr.Petals, he MAy finally actually listen to some good advice. Well.. It worked!
After a long talk with this young man, my husband discovered Jimmy had artistic abilities! So, Clever Mr. Petals set Jimmy up with a job working for a faux artist friend of his, painting houses. Jimmy was happy and was finally on the right track. The faux artist claimed Jimmy was working out well! Bonnie was so so grateful, SO... when we ran into her on that board walk many years ago, and I was introduced to her... She couldn't stop hugging Mr. Petals and she was RAvInG to me that He was her hero! (sounds so nice, right?? read on!...)

Shortly after that encounter...... I won concert tickets to a Phish concert from a local radio station. ( 'be the 10th caller and win tickets to a Concert !!' I was hoping for don henley tickets)
My husband and I had no desire to see this band ... so I said... 'do u know anyone who would want Phish tickets?' My husband thought of Jimmy! He got in touch with him and Jimmy (who was still working at that SAME job and Still happy) was thrilled to receive free tickets to any concert!

About a year after those free tickets.... We were walking the board walk again and WHO do we see? Yes... It's Bonnie again! All smiles, Mr. Petals greets her with a hug and asks about Jimmy. ( I am sure he was expecting the familiar praise and hugs he had received from Bonnie during the last encounter). Coldly Bonnie stares at him and says... "hmmm Jimmy! I haven't seen Jimmy in a year! REmember those tickets YOU gave him to see Phish? THat band! PHISH!..
WEll... He decided to FOLLOW them!" We were confused at first... Until she explained further... Jimmy is a Phish follower... One of those crazy fans that just follows the band from one gig to another!! My poor husband felt so awful AND responsible! He didn't know What to say to her, except...'I am so sorry to hear this'. No hugs and kisses goodbye from Bonnie this time... instead, she just gave a phony... "nice to run into u" and was on her way!! ( like a cold phish!)
We haven't run into Bonnie on the board walk or anywhere else since, and We have NO idea if green around the gills Jimmy is still on a phishing expedition, living in a phish bowl, drinking like a fish, into something fishy or just plain lost at sea!

** To Mr. Petals... don't be discouraged honey...you aren't responsible!... always reach out and help someone .. cause... (sorry.. i just can't resist).... there are plenty of (troubled) fish in the sea
Hope u enjoyed this TRUE tale as much as our son did. . .(fishing for a compliment?)

A luscious language

I often think that when my children look back on growing up in our home, they will always have memories of me in our kitchen. Always with a pot of something yummy simmering on the stove top or roasting in the oven.

To me, nourishing my family with healthy home cooked foods is the same as telling them How much I love them. Tonight while preparing a pot of my Moms broccoli soup, something dawned on me and no matter how hard I tried to reach back through my memories of my early childhood, I just couldn't visualize my mom in our kitchen back in our first house on first street. I can see the railroad rooms, the tv, the front sunroom/dining area. I see these few blurry things but I don't remember a great many details of our first home. I do remember that we had a broken couch leg and it wasn't until we moved away from first street when I was ten that it hit me like a bolt of lightening ....we had been poor!! I remember that my Mom had worked in Tony's pizza restaurant as a waitress until I was about 6 and then she moved down the street a bit to a restaurant called the 'red barn', which I guess was equivalent to an applebees of today. Most of my early memories of her are during this stage of her 'career'. I visualize her In this restaurant but never at home with me and my sister and brother.

My mom has had a rough life. She fell in love with and married my dad despite his serious heart condition. When Dad passed away my mom was only 33 yr.s old. She had to leave her 3 children, pretty much on their own, and take on a full-time, pitifully low paying job which barely made ends meet for us all. Stirring my soup again just now, I can't remember what healthy foods sustained us during this early period, I only have memories of Many pizzas and italian heros from Tony's (our neighbors pizza parlor) and the rare exciting outings to Wetsons.(they were long islands Mcdonalds before we got an actual Mcdonalds).

So why then as I sit down and am eating this delicious bowl of soup, am I feeling my mom's love with each warm spoonful?
Ah! The memories of my later years with mom, that's why. After re-marrying and cutting her hours down to part-time, She was finally able to reach back through her memory and stir up the favorite recipes that her Mom had loved her with.
Favorites like, Zucchini Soup, Pasta and Peas and Tonight's Broccoli soup which inspired this post and will probably inspire my kids to use as their language of love towards my future grandchildren.

A reason?

The heads or tails prompt is 'reason'
It made me wonder...
What is the reason I have been blogging less?
One reason that I am aware of is Zero inspiration from my routine life.
Nothing much is happening, nothing that is, that makes me think ANYONE would be
even mildly interested in it. I also have less and less free time.
Another reason for my lack of motivation? Fewer Comments. Hearing everyones comments
was THE best part of blogging. However, Lately, Not as many readers are commenting. I would normally assume it must be that my posts are for shit. BUT according to that (sometimes scary) site-meter thingy.. MANY more people pop in on me and read posts than are commenting. What is THEIR reason? Who knows? Maybe once they REad the posts they think they ARE too shitty to motivate THEM to take that extra step and time? Could a reason be that I am hitting my 3 year blogging anniversary soon and that MAY indicate a good reason for quitting time? After All, How long Do most bloggers continue to do this? Let me end yet another shitty post on a positive note...
Would you like to know What DOES help me to find enough inspiration to sit down and try to think of a reason to blog?
The wonderful prompt sites like Heads or tails and the others in my side bar. Thanks! Without you guys I wouldn't have made it a year.
(hope u choose to leave a comment! )

time of your life..

Tomorrow is easter Sunday already?
No! How did nearly four months fly by?
I don't think I've accomplished too much so far
Yet here we are, in the blink of an eye

Wasn't it just my sons second birthday?
But..He turns 25 years old this June
HE is teaching children to read and write?
I swear he just learned to eat off of a spoon

Remember all those dreams you were so sure of?
Wasn't Life going to deliver it ALL on a chichi golden plate?
It's SO scary HOW quickly Seconds and Birthdays are ticking by
Let's Get going... Shape our dreams into reality, before it's too late

Right round (to the advil)

I guess I got a little over zealous while watching the rapper Flo Rida on
American idol tonight. I was really loving the driving song he was singing ( turn up your volume if you want to hear it!) I remember this song from the Crazy Eighties but his rendition.. as much as it was downright dirTY, was also downright driving! I love it!
It motivated me to toss off my fleece blanket put down my jelly beans and get my butt off my little cozy corner of the love seat and start dancing and singing! I really startled Mr. Petals over in the other corner!
While dancing... I TriED SO hard to do that gyrating hip hop motion that my ZuMba instructor does so effortlessly.. and you know what happened?
I got an instant awful Headache!! I think my hip bone is connected to my headbone! I also think that at my age I better stick with the eighties version. I bet if you are listening You ARE moving too.. at least your feet?
Btw.. Who IS your favorite idol?

Black and white

flirt
ploy
stunning

She flirts with titillation draped in a revealing black and white gown
snubs her nose at shocked refined women or just coldly stares them down
A stunning cunning lolita with one ploy challenging her young convoluted head
Weave husbands into adulterers, seductively luring them into her wicked spider web bed.

This poem is for black and white week at true colours thursday and todays 3 word wednesday.
I couldn't decide who looked more like the poems lolita? Which pic do u like best?

tails!

Over at Heads or Tails the prompt is make a list of 3 things....
This is so difficult..because it's too easy.. hmmmm.
my favorite snacks? My favorite movies? books? songs?? WAIT.. While listening to Colbie Caillat's cd (listen! she is singing to u) there is a song that quotes that famous poem that I love... I just looked and discovered it's a quote from the bible... So here is a list of 3 Beautiful yet random quotes that I love, the first happens to be biblical.

1.) "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves."

2.) “Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.” by Elizabeth Stone

3.) "You must be the change you want to see in the world" by Mahatma Gandhi

And because I would like to try and add a smile to my blogging friends faces... here is OnE extra for good luck!
"Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings."
thanks for the prompt Barb! xo

Sunny Sunday

I don't think I realized How badly I was having the winter blues till I stepped out bright and early this morning and felt the sunny sunday sun beam down on me. It's effect should be condensed into a tasty yet healthy cookie that we can eat each day. Wouldn't that be great? packaged energy, happiness and appreciation. I was determined to make the most out of this feeling and this beautiful day.
First.. I headed off to a Zumba class! WHAT an Intense work out!! I started sweating after only 5 minutes and didn't stop shakin' my hips for a full hour! ( according to weight watchers that earns me 6 additional points today!! Thats 5 milano cookies!)
After that I did a few errands, took my son to work with the roof open and great music enhancing my feels so good feelings.
After a healthy lunch, My husband and I drove to the beach and walked 2 miles on the board walk.
It felt so wonderful. We enjoyed hand holding and talking and the water and the sky and The sunshine! I also enjoyed the man who jogged past us with headphones on while singing ... HELP, I NEED SOMEONE.. really loud, like he was the only one in the world! haha An older man with skin tight spandex pants and a crazy jacket! Others around us were laughing and looking at him like he was a nut job.. but, I said to my husband.. I want whatever he is taking!
After we showered we headed out to a nearby village to do some window shopping and more walking!
I found a fancy but quite reasonable little q-tip holder for my vanity in a little shop that had just opened yesterday. I felt good to give the friendly owner a little business. I sure hope he makes it in this scary economy. Then we stopped in a restaurant for some dinner then headed home and played rummy-o.
(I Love games.. so he pacifies me!) What a wonderful day! Now My husband is picking up our son and when they get back we are all going to sit down and watch Slum dog Millionaire. We still haven't seen it! Tomorrow the forecast says rain all day long... but It's okay.. I absorbed so much of todays warmth, I will still be feeling it's affects, whatever the weather!

Celebrate!

This week Sunday scribblings asks us...
what have we got to Celebrate?
ELEVEN WEEKS that my husband isn't smoking!! WOooo Hoooo! He has tried to quit so often, once being successful for SIX whole years! THIS time, I just know he is going to beat them for good! We are also celebrating that he lost 5.4 lbs our first week back at Weight watchers and I lost 2.4 (reason to celebrate with a cupcake maybe or maybe...those desirable doritos!)
This week I am also celebrating that my stomach is feeling much better! My bloated condition has lessened enough for me to finally ditch the sweat pants and put my clothes back on! I am still waiting to hear from the gastro doctor to make sure my abdominal sonogram results were as good as my pelvic sono results. Based on how I am feeling, I am confident that the doc will give me good news! My genius friend Sally most likely solved my belly mystery! She thinks the bloating must have been caused by the iron supplement my doctor told me I needed to take due to my blood test showing I am anemic. The gastro doc. thought that her assumption could very well be what what causing all my symptoms.
If all these reasons aren't enough for us to have a party over here...
Check out my Crazy son....

Even though I don't really understand the attraction to his bizarre style of experimental music, apparently there are many who do. He and his band mates are getting a lot of attention due to their latest performance in Manhattan and in anticipation of opening for Sonic youth in their next show. Sonic youth! I even remember who they are and am impressed by this development! They are playing at the No fun fest in Brooklyn on May 16th.
My son is here with his chains that he slams against sheet metal in this particular song! WOW! That's-a My boy! CeLeBrAtE!!

True Colors Thursday

On my way home from my Weight watchers meeting I approached a red light and pulled up right along side of a Doritos truck which was in the right lane... Feeling Starved for my lunch, which I was on my way home to prepare, AND MISSING AnYthing by Mr. Frito lay... I was hungrily staring at the picture on the side of the truck! WEll, I guess that is why The driver then looked in my direction.. he then gave me a cute smile and a wink! NOT thinking clearly( due to my starvation! I like to weigh in to weight watchers with a pretty empty belly!) I proceed to lick my lips at him and rub my stomach while making 'yummy eyes'. He literally jumped back in his seat showing how surprised he was by my gestures. It wasn't until the light turned green and I drove off leaving him in the dust, that I realized he must have thought I was thinking HE was yummy!! How could he have known I was admiring the Giant sized 3-d doritos?? It was then that I could just FEEL myself turning SCARLET with embarrassment! What an idiot I am! Especially when running on empty!

3 word wednesday

the 3 word wednesday words today are....
crush
knack
varied

The word 'crush' brought me back to my silly youth!

Her heart ache varied from dull to sharp pain
for each 'crush' who didn't even know her name
An eternal knack for choosing THE most unobtainable guy
A young starry-eyed dreamer lusting for pure pie in the sky
